At the top the styrofoam and plastic stayed together, and I kept gently working the top until finally the styrofoam worked loose (chunks of ice fell out). This issue is about ice buildup, but it also is about the calcium build up and both are working against you. I had to defrost the entire fridge and then still had to use the hair dryer (VERY CAREFULLY) to melt the ice enough that we slowly got the cover off.
